Four faculty members received the state higher education system’s most prestigious recognition for scholarly excellence.

The annual awards recognize outstanding unclassified academic staff, unclassified professional staff and postdoctoral fellows whose research has significantly influenced their fields and expanded intellectual or societal insights.

Honorees are researchers, scholars or creators of national or international stature who have contributed significantly to society, their disciplines, the local and/or university community — and who have demonstrated a commitment to developing future leaders in their fields through mentoring.

Jim Butler, senior scientist at the Kansas Geological Survey, is striving to protect the aquifers supporting irrigated agriculture in Kansas and beyond.
