The Office of Research, Center for Research Computing and KU IT project to replace the university’s Research File Storage (ResFS) is underway. We appreciate your patience and support as we migrate with care.

Here is a brief update on the status of the cutover, which began on Friday, Dec. 15:

  • We expect all data to be synced by the end of today.
  • Right now, all files on the existing hardware are “read only.”
  • Once the final sync is complete, the KU IT team will need to finish some additional work and testing before making the new service available.
  • We expect service will be fully restored by 8 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 20.

We will confirm via email when the cutover is complete and full network access is restored. At that time, please verify you have access to your data. You may then reconnect to ResFS shares and restart any processes, scripts or related activities. There will be no change to namespace; you should expect storage to function as it did previously.

The project team has taken great care to plan this essential upgrade of aging equipment with minimal impact to researchers. Please contact Suzie Johannes at sjohannes@ku.edu if you have questions or concerns about the outage.

Thank you,
KU Office of Research
