Dear Colleagues,
As you may know, Jamie Caldwell, executive director of the KU Medical Center Research Institute and associate vice chancellor for research, recently announced his plan to retire. In addition to five years in leadership roles at the medical center, Jamie also had served since spring 2018 as interim executive director and president of the KU Center for Technology Commercialization, which brings KU-developed research expertise and technology across all campuses to the marketplace for the benefit of society and the university.
Effective Aug. 1, Simon Atkinson, vice chancellor for research on KU’s Lawrence campus, is serving as interim executive director and president of KUCTC. Simon has accumulated a wealth of technology transfer leadership experience during his career. Prior to joining KU, he served as vice chancellor for research at Indiana University – Purdue University Indianapolis and associate vice president for research at Indiana University, with system-wide responsibility for innovation and commercialization.
Under Simon’s leadership, the university will conduct a review of KUCTC to ensure the office is optimally serving the needs of KU, its researchers and its partners in technology commercialization.
Please join us in thanking Jamie for his service to the university and in welcoming Simon and thanking him for his continued commitment to research and innovation at KU.
Respectfully,
Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research
