By all accounts, the upgrade of KU’s Research File Storage (ResFS) platform in December was a resounding success:
- The new platform performs substantially faster.
- All files and shares were replicated successfully, and KU Information Technology has received zero reports of missing data.
- A new rate structure has expanded free access to research file storage.
- ResFS has 15% more users since the new system went online.
Although there was complete certainty that all files were replicated, KU IT retained the old ResFS hardware as a safety net. Because there have been no reports of missing data and there are no active connections to the old hardware, KU IT will turn it off on Wednesday, May 1.
