Leadership update for Achievement & Assessment Institute

Dear Colleagues,

I am writing to share an update about leadership at KU's Achievement & Assessment Institute.

After many years of distinguished service as AAI's director, Neal Kingston is stepping into a special advisor role. Neal informed me in February of his plans to step down and has since worked closely with AAI's executive team on a thoughtful succession process that has positioned the institute for continued success. Neal's vision, leadership and dedication have helped establish AAI as a nationally respected organization whose research, assessment and evaluation work has advanced research and improved outcomes for learners, educators and communities across Kansas and the nation. His stewardship has strengthened the institute's reputation, expanded its impact and created a strong foundation for the future.

I am pleased to share that Jackie Counts is now serving as director of AAI. Jackie brings extensive leadership experience, deep knowledge of the institute and a longstanding commitment to research that serves the public good. She previously led AAI's Center for Public Partnerships & Research and has served in institute-wide leadership roles, working closely with AAI's centers, staff and partners. Her collaborative approach, strategic perspective and commitment to excellence make her exceptionally well positioned to lead AAI into its next chapter.

AAI's future is bright because of the strong foundation Neal helped build and the talented team that continues to advance its mission. I look forward to working with Jackie and the entire AAI community as the institute continues to expand its impact through research, evaluation, assessment and partnership.

Please join me in thanking Neal for his extraordinary contributions to AAI and the University of Kansas and congratulating Jackie on her new role.
