Abstract: The Cultivating Cultures for Ethical STEM (CCE STEM) program accepts proposals for innovative research projects to foster ethical STEM research in all of the fields of science and engineering that NSF supports, including within interdisciplinary, inter-institutional and international contexts. CCE STEM research projects will use basic research to produce knowledge about what constitutes responsible or irresponsible, just or unjust scientific practices and sociotechnical systems, and how to best instill students with this knowledge. The anticipated funding amount each year is $3,050,000 for an estimated 6-8 Standard Grants. The maximum award duration is 5 years.
Limited Submission Proposals Procedure: http://policy.ku.edu/research/institutional-endorsement
Pre-Proposal Procedure:
If you plan to submit a pre-proposal, please send notice to rgslimitedsubs@ku.edu one week prior to the internal deadline. This information will assist KU Research in organizing the review committee.

The pre-proposal should include:
  1. a three-page narrative describing the proposed research including
    • key personnel and partnerships
    • addressing any special components requested in the agency's solicitation
    • a generalized yearly budget and
  2. a two-page CV for the PI and all co-investigators including
    • funding history, current, and pending support

Investigators may include suggestions of faculty members whom they believe are especially well qualified to evaluate pre-proposals for this initiative. Please submit this material electronically to rgslimitedsubs@ku.edu at KU Research, by 5:00 p.m. on 12/15/2014.

If the number of interested parties exceeds the mandated limit, an internal review committee will be formed to review all preliminary proposals. KU Research's intent is to select the proposers by Monday, December 29, 2014. This will give the candidates approximately 6 weeks to prepare for the proposal submission.

If you have any questions about the solicitation or the process described above, please contact Nancy at rgslimitedsubs@ku.edu or 864-7434.
